Whistle Stop Java Shop

The Whistle Stop Java Shop is nestled in the historic Rock Island Line Freight House Train Depot, tucked back from the road side railroad tracks in Milan, Illinois. We offer something for everyone and use only the best ingredients to make our drinks and food.

The Whistle Stop serves up a delicious flavored latte either steamed or over ice. Root beer steamers or hot chocolate for the kids only 50 cents. We serve those drinks along with fresh baked goods or choose from a list of delicious sandwiches made right on the spot - full or half sandwiches are offered or you could choose a half sandwich and soup. Soups are seasonal from October until April. Out back there is a deck and patio that serves as a quiet place to relax and enjoy nature in full. You might even see the Iowa Interstate rail line pass by.

Roughly eight blocks away you'll find your way to the historic Hennepin Canal. There either by foot or bicycle you will see wildlife in abundance. The trail takes you to Lock 32 at the confluence of the Mississippi and Rock Rivers and the Hennepin Canal. Witness for yourself the magnificent American Bald Eagle soaring high above the trees and swooping down to grab a fish for dinner. Several eagles nest up in the trees along these waterways.

Eco-Friendly Notes

We recycle our plastic, paper, cardboard, glass bottles, jars and nearly 800 pounds of coffee grounds, and vegetables are composted.

Locally or Family-Owned Business Notes

Our family-owned business opened in 2004 in a rail freight house depot built in 1901. We have taken pride in the choices of coffee beans, syrups and sauces we use to create a wonderful and refreshing latte, frapps, and smoothies. Our beans are grown in Indonesia and roasted in Seattle, Washington.  If you have a favorite flavor latte request, barista Steve Kane will make it for you.

Accessibility Notes

We are ADA accessible into the building, restroom and parking.

Pet Friendly Notes

Leashed pets are welcome on the patio.
