A quick drive north of downtown Onalaska along the Great River Road (Hwy 35) takes you to the Sunny the Sunfish sculpture and a scenic overlook perched above Lake Onalaska. Take a quick picture with Sunny and then soak in the multifaceted hues over Lake Onalaska.

Interests and Areas of Expertise
My interests are photography, camping and running. How does this make me an expert? Well, for starters I know all the cool spots for photo ops your friends won't know about. I also like to be outdoors so I'll let you in on my favorite spots and things to do while hiking, paddling and biking. Oh, and I also I work in the Tourism industry in Onalaska so I have access to many, many resources to help make your trip as fun as possible! Check out www.discoveronalaska.com, I'm not kidding!
Onalaska is best known for the bike trail that runs through town 24 miles north to Trempealeau. The Great River State Trail is our "bread and butter" some might call it. We're fortunate enough to bike, hike, snowmobile and bird right in our own backyard! Take a few steps away from everyday life and get caught in the moment on the trail, even if only for a few seconds. If you're passing through town and didn't bring a bike, we've got you covered! Onalaska has two rental shops that are more than happy to set you up for the day.
I recommend hiking up to the top of Greens Coulee Bluff. A gorgeous walk with options and a rewarding view at the end, you won't be disappointed! Hike it anytime of year, yes that even means winter!
