Snively is located on the west bank of the Odessa Wildlife Management Complex (lake), approximately 4 miles east of Wapello. It is a beautiful campground.
The campground features 33 sites with 20-30-50 amp service and one non-electric site. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table. There is access to potable water but not at each site. No dump station.
Snively has a canoe/kayak launch with dock that provides easy access to the Odessa Water Trail. The Odessa Water Trail includes approximately 20 miles of flat water paddling. L:oops and out and backs offer a variety of distances. Motor boats must use the boat landing at Shafer's Access, approximately 1 mile north of Snively. Other recreational opportunities include: duck & goose hunting, fishing, boating, birding, wildlife observation and more. There is a day use area for picnics as well.
The Odessa Wildlife Area (lake) is managed for migrating ducks, geese and shorebirds. Water levels are manipulated to mimic the natural flooding and drought conditions that would be present on the Mississippi River, if not for the Locks & Dam's. This unique area attracts numerous species of migrating birds and makes for excellent waterfowl hunting. The low water levels in the summer are great for paddling but make travel with larger boats difficult or impossible. Water levels can be viewed at IowaRiverWaterTrail.com.
FeesCampsites are $12/night
If choosing to paddle, pick up a map of the area and maybe bring a GPS along. This unique mix of open water, chutes, ditches and more makes navigation difficult. You may get lost if you aren't keeping track of where you are.
