River Walk

Stroll along the quarter-mile brick walk atop the levee and enjoy an 8 mile panoramic view of the majestic Mississippi River.  From the days when paddle wheelers dominated river traffic to modern day working barges and tows you will experience the movement of commercial traffic to the historic cruises aboard the American Queen or Queen of the Mississippi. Here is where the river reversed its course during the Great New Madrid Earthquake of 1811.  Stand on the New Madrid Fault Line and see the Mississippi run east to west to the gulf.

Recreational Opportunities

The New Madrid area is noted for some of the best fishing along the river.  Host to the 2014 Bass Pro Shop's Big Cat Quest National Championship Tournament.  Enjoy historic Museums, Schools, and the Hunter-Dawson Plantation State Historic Site.  Experience the annual fall festival on the river, and bring a camera for some great photography. Plan a picnic lunch at Cotton Wood Park next to the river or take a walk to the end of the Observation Deck and be mesmerized by the molasses like flow of the river.
