The three-day weekend competition, taking place September 24th-September 26th and covering four city blocks in downtown Murphysboro, also welcomes the return one of the weekend’s favorites, The Townsend Spice Kids’ Cue, and the arrival of the first SCA Steak Cook-Off in conjunction with the Steak Cookoff Association. The World Food Championship qualifying events are returning for a second year. Regional home and professional cooks are invited to participate in the Steak Cook-off and World Food Championship events.
Praise the Lard Murphysboro Barbecue Cook-Off has become a must-attend weekend in September on the path to Memphis in May, the Jack Daniel’s World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, and other distinguished barbecue competitions around the country. Nationally recognized as one of the best places to experience and celebrate the competitive barbecue circuit lifestyle, the Memphis Barbecue Network (MBN) and the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) sanctioned event evaluates competitors for fish, wings, chicken, shoulder, ribs, brisket, and the whole hog. This year 75 teams from across the country will compete for the honor of top hog with a $25,000 grand prize and title of Grand Champion.
