McPike Mansion

McPike Mansion is a historical site that is listed  on the national and state register. Built in 1869 by Henry Guest McPike this 2ndEmpire  Italianate designed mansion includes a mansard roof This architectural design by Lucas Pfeiffenberger appeals to many visitors. Presently it sits on 4 acres or the originally 15 and is visited by many visitors each years. Henry Guest McPike was a wealthy businessman, horticulturist and Mayor.Called Mt. Lookout Park, it sits on one of the higher hills of Alton.

For many years the McPIke Mansion has been known around Alton as one of the most haunted buildings in Alton . This reputation preceded the present owners Tours are given April through Oct. including a campout in the fall. Visitors come for a variety of reasons.  Some people just feel drawn to the house.
