Austin-based choreographer Gina Patterson known for her work of “startling originality” is the creator and choreographer of “Liquid Roads” featuring 16 performers including 4 live musicians. The 90-minute show is inspired by the music that has traveled the length of the Mississippi River and into our hearts.
Liquid Roads is a unique audience experience, and it begins when the audience enters the lobby. When it’s time to open the doors, the fun continues- as the audience is led by a group of traveling musicians into the theater. The entertainment is non-stop as the band continues to play until the audience is seated and the performance begins. The audience is further engaged- during the final number as they are invited on stage for the finale. And the fun doesn’t end when the curtain drops- the cast joins the audience for an old fashioned Ice Cream social in the lobby.
LIQUID ROADS reaches beyond contemporary dance to pure entertainment with live music and dance inspired by New Orleans, Imperial Swing, steamboats, train travel, and eras when music healed our souls and celebrated life. Music selections include well-known pieces such as “Ain’t No Sunshine,” “St. James Infirmary”, “What a Wonderful World,” “Jumping With Symphony Sid,” “Stop Your Dogging, ” and “So In Love” among many others.
