J.Fires’ Market Bistro is an American-Seafood experience which was spear-headed by a local Chef displaced by the catastrophic Hurricane Katrina in 2009. J. Fires’ Market Bistro hit the ground sprinting in laid back Waterloo, Illinois. Looking to liven up the restaurant scene, enthusiastic Owner and Chef Jennifer Kennedy created an American, Fresh Seafood concept restaurant in a 200 year old farm house that focuses on farm to table, local, fresh ingredients, eco-friendly and sustainable living, chemical free living, dietary restriction friendly (because we love a challenge!!), and fresh seafood!
Growing up on a farm in historic Prairie du Rocher, Illinois, where the fruits and vegetables are grown in the black, nutrient dense soil of the American Bottoms, Chef Jennifer’s vision for a restaurant that highlights local ingredients in their perfect simplicity began in the garden as a young girl.
While Chef Jennifer is your favorite girl from home, her resume is incredibly impressive. She earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Culinary Arts at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Chef Jennifer has also worked and trained in New Orleans, Louisiana, Costiglioli de Asti, Italy, Tuscany, Italy and many places in the surrounding local areas, giving her restaurant a very unique mix of the flair of New Orleans style cuisine and the comfort we all know so well in Italian style cooking. While working and training in New Orleans, Chef Jennifer acquired a love and passion for the flavor and diversity of fresh seafood that can be clearly noticed on the menu.
The J.Fires’ team is dedicated to operating an eco-friendly, relaxing, and passionate restaurant. Our mission is to serve the freshest seafood, beef, chicken, and all other ingredients cooked in the correct techniques to give our customers the ultimate dining experience.
Our goals are to restore and keep alive the 1818 brick farm house turned restaurant and the accompanying 1873 barn decorating the background. The atmosphere is one of a kind with the perfectly shaded Grape and Wisteria Arbor—it is the perfect place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine or warm meal.
We have received many awards and accolades which consist of: Best Seafood, Best Pizza, 1 of 50 Best Dishes in St. Louis, Best Reason to Cross the River, Best Outdoor Dining, Best New Restaurant and many word of mouth referrals that has kept people coming for years.
