Honoring an American hero, Herman Davis State Park surrounds the gravesite of, and monument to, Private Herman Davis, an Arkansas farm boy and war hero. Davis grew up hunting in this local area along the Mississippi River and later became a scout and sharpshooter in World War I. He was on General John J. Pershing's list of World War I's great heroic stories. Davis received the Distinguished Service Cross, Croix de Guere, and Medaille Militaire awards from the American and French governments.
