Locally or Family-Owned Business Notes

Anders and Gerd Hedman moved to southern Illinois from Stockholm, Sweden twenty-two years ago for what was supposed to be a one year adventure. After falling in love with the area, both agreed to stay and spread their wings from their day-to-day physical therapist (Gerd) and construction (Anders) jobs and bought a peach farm in Alto Pass, Illinois. Both being avid wine drinkers, adding a vineyard seemed to be a natural expansion of their farm.

Always great hosts, Hedman Winery began as a small café where guests could enjoy fresh peaches from their orchard and delicious Swedish cuisine cooked by Anders and Gerd. After a little push from customers that wanted to enjoy wines with their meal and the Hedman's love for fine wines, Hedman Winery opened its doors in 2005.

Anders and Gerd have been married for 42 years and have two daughters and four grandchildren.  They have a love for family, friends, adventure, cooking and the great outdoors. FUN FACT:  Both are sailors and have sailed in Sweden's Nordic Championship.

Come on out to Hedman Winery & Vineyard where you will enjoy award-winning, Illinois wines, savory Swedish cuisine and an atmosphere unlike anything else.

Herman Winery is one of our favorites. The peach wine is great but I especially love the lobster bisque. We have timed our visits to this winery for mealtime, the food is fantastic. It is awesome to see them go out to the garden to add fresh herbs to the soup or other food you have chosen. Highly recommended!

A beautiful place to have dinner or some wine. Friendly, casual, and delicious.

The Swedish meatballs are delicious. Always have to bring a bottle of peach wine home with me. This farm was the farm I was born and raised on. I spent many a hot day working in this barn helping pack peaches for shipping to the market.
