The George Washington Ball Home was saved by Betty Bullard. Betty has been active in Vicksburg's historical society and preservation for years. She saw the home in 2004 and began restoration. It was fully restored and listed on the National Historic Registry in 2005.
The property deed shows a distant cousin of our first president, George Washington Ball, built the Federal style house in 1822. It is post and beam construction and withstood the tornado of 1953. The flooring is all original virgin heart pine of random width further attesting to the age of the house.
The home is lived in with period antiques and accessories. Tours are available by appointment.
Mrs. Bullard is on the Vicksburg Architectural Review Board and the Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau. She is a longtime resident of Vicksburg and has raised 8 children in our community. Along with her daughter and son-in-law she also owns the Main Street Market Cafe which is across the street from George Washington Ball Home.
