French Quarter Visitor Center (Jean Lafitte National Historical Park & Preserve)

Jean Lafitte's French Quarter Visitor Center provides a good introduction to the history, culture, and nature of Louisiana's lower Mississippi River delta with an emphasis on New Orleans itself. Visitor center exhibits and a short film describe how people arrived in New Orleans from throughout the world, bringing their own traditions with them and learning new ones to create a distinct culture rich in food, music, and tradition.

The center is managed by the National Park Service, and rangers offer daily walking tours along the levee of the Mississippi River. Cultural programs are offered throughout the year; check website for details: https://www.nps.gov/jela/french-quarter-site.htm
