Once a portage route from Mille Lacs to the upper Mississippi River, Cuyler Adams and his dog Una found riches when he discovered the presence of iron ore in this area in 1903. In the aftermath of over 20 mines, you’re now invited to enjoy the new wealth of the landscape, dotted with clear blue lakes and hand-crafted mountain bike trails.
The Miner’s Mountain Rally Center is a good place to start whether you’re hitting the 25 miles of world-class mountain bike trails, launching your boat for a day of trout fishing, going scuba diving or wanting to hike to Miner’s Mountain Overlook for spectacular views of the red rock landscape. For a smoother ride, the paved Cuyuna Lakes State Trail passes through the recreation area and will take you 8 miles from Crosby to Riverton.
Stay in a yurt or the Portsmouth Campground to extend your stay.
