As the highest point in Wright County, CityView Park is the namesake of Monticello. The community’s name - “Monticello” - is Latin in origin, meaning “small mountain.” Monticello’s small mountain offers a view of much of northern Wright and southern Sherburne Counties. The park is located on the north and west side of the mountain, rising over 100’ feet from the surrounding flat Anoka sand plains. CityView park itself is a wooded oasis, with majestic bur oaks stretching their limbs across the mountain.
As for the view? To the south, visitors can see over 2 miles to the take in the beauty of Pelican Lake, a 2,425 acre waterfowl haven. Looking west and north, the approximately 2 miles via is of the growing city of Monticello, and on a clear winter day – the winding Mississippi River.
The park is currently in a primarily natural state, with rough pathways and a small picnic and viewing area. Over the next five years, the community will develop a system of pathways, shelter facilities and a mountain biking trail, designed for both sustainability and challenge.
