Church of the Assumption

Church of the Assumption was built in 1852 and is considered one of the most magnificent Catholic churches in Louisiana. There are fourteen Romanesque columns with Corinthian capitals and a ceiling composed of octagonal shaped plaster casts suspended by cables and accented with gold leaf. There are marble fonts and a spectacular marble alter. Intricate German-made stained glass windows line the walls. Terrazzo floors complete this beautiful church. Its beauty can only be truly appreciated in person.
