Campbell's Island State Historic Site

At this site on July 19, 1814, Lieutenant John Campbell, along with a force of U.S. regulars and rangers, fought a daylong battle in the War of 1812. The North Carolina granite memorial, overlooking the Mississippi River, features a bronze plaque commemorating the battle.
