Bursting with vibrant color, the arboretum at Bridge Park is spread across the lush hillside of the Mississippi River in downtown Monticello. From spring through fall, the east side of Bridge Park is awash in a stunning variety of blooms. A team of volunteers and master gardeners tends this terraced garden throughout the year. From a vantage point at the top of the park, picnicking visitors can look out across the blossoms and trees onto the great Mississippi River.
In winter, the colorful blooms are replaced by the colors of mittens and scarves as East Bridge park comes alive with sledders racing down the hillside. Hot chocolate and warm soup await at nearby downtown restaurants.
The garden also lies along the community’s longest trail system – the Great River Trail (part of the national Mississippi River Trail bikeway). The Great River Trail connects users not only to the larger system, but also to West Bridge Park, which lies just on the other side of the bridge crossing the river.
