On June 18, 2016 participants will celebrate Bemidji as a Bicycle Friendly Community by riding around Lake Bemidji including crossing the Mississippi River in two locations. This scenic, family friendly ride along the shores of Lake Bemidji is a 17 mile route on paved streets and the Paul Bunyan Trail. The ride includes several rest stops with local music and food such as Ruttgers Birchmont Lodge and Lake Bemidji State Park. There are opportunities for photos of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox, the Mississippi River, Diamond Point Park and more. Participants often see snapping turtles laying eggs, an eagle's nest with eaglets, loons, and Minnesota's state flower, the showy lady slipper orchid. This ride is enjoyed by a diverse group of bicyclists from families to friends of all ages enjoying the day together. The community supports this event with volunteers and sponsorships.
