Every year thousands of visitors come to Arkabutla Lake to go fishing. The lake is home to several species of native fish to Mississippi waters, such as Largemouth Bass, Bream, Catfish, and Crappie. Over the years perhaps nothing has become more renowned at Arkabutla Lake than it’s consistency for producing huge Crappie! Several national sporting and fishing magazines declare Arkabutla Lake as one of the finest Crappie fishing lakes in the Southeast. In 1991, a Black Crappie weighing 4 lbs 4 oz was caught at Arkabutla and remains the Mississippi State record.
Rules and Regulations for Fishing Area
All non-exempt persons are required to have a valid fishing license in their possession when fishing public waters. Each resident of the State of Mississippi ages sixteen (16) to sixty-four (64), shall be required to buy a fishing license. Any person sixty-five (65) or older, or any person otherwise exempted from obtaining a fishing license, must have documentation with him/her at all times while fishing.
