The outdoor activities of the annual Bald Eagle Appreciation Days include live eagle watching at Victory Park, along the riverfront with trained personnel from the Lee County Conservation Department to assist using spotting scopes and to answer any questions from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Indoor activities will be held at the River City Mall, 300 Main Street, Keokuk from 9am to 4pm and will feature Agency displays from the Lee County Iowa Conservation Board, Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the US Army Corps of Engineers showcase their efforts of protecting, preserving and maintaining our natural habitat.
The Insect Zoo will have hands-on lessons in biology & ecology with hissing cockroaches, tarantulas, beetles, scorpions & millipedes taught by the Entomology Department of Iowa State University.
There will be children pioneer activities with Nauvoo on the Road and a Native American cultural area coordinated by the Thunderbird Society.
Raptor Awareness Programs by the World Bird Sanctuary of St. Louis will be held in the Mall Plaza Cinema on Saturday at 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 1:00, 2:00, & 3:00 and on Sunday at 11:00, 12:00, 1:00, 2:00 & 3:00.
A Woodcarvers' Show will be at the Baymont Inn, (325 Main St., Keokuk) on Saturday from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm & Sunday from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm. A wood-carving contest will be on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. followed by an auction at 2:30 p.m.
